I look at the Cake Poker Network as being made up of Cake Poker… and then the rest. The dominant site on this network is where you will find the best of the action and majority of the players. Cake Poker were founded in 2006 by poker pros who wanted to make up for the shortcomings of the bigger sites. Their results were initially excellent, however these days the Cake software does look and feel a little like it was ‘really good in 2006′ (with the other networks all catching up since).
Fast forward to 2012 and we see Cake as the 2nd biggest site still accepting US players, as well as those worldwide. Their smaller stakes cash games are plenty busy enough for recreational players to enjoy, with Omaha popular in addition to Holdem. Tournaments are on the smaller side, though there are plenty of small guarantees to keep players interested.
One extra which players at Cake enjoy are the highly rated Gold Card and Gold Chip loyalty schemes. Cards are awarded randomly (more at higher limits) and are used to make up hands which trigger cash bonuses – collect all 52 in a given period for $52,000! Chips are accumulated with the volume of play and are exchanged for tournament entries… these tournaments have nice prize pools and small fields – so you have a good chance of turning the chips into cash. This is on top of your welcome bonus (110% to $600) + plenty of one-off promotions and live event satellites.

Cake Poker Network – Other Skins
There is a long list of other skins who share the Cake Poker network, these include new site Colt Poker, Power Poker and Chocolate Poker. Each of these skins pool their players on the same software – branding and coloring in their own designs. While local loyalties and extra incentives bring advantages to being a member of a smaller skin, I prefer the safety of being part of the biggest site on any network – and on this one Cake Poker themselves are way ahead.
