When the weather starts to get cold, it is time to start thinking of the big winter live poker tournaments which take place in sunnier climates. While everyone else is trying to get through January in one piece, you could be enjoying the heat of the Bahamas or even Melbourne, Australia for some of the biggest poker events around.
This does not have to be just a pipe-dream, online qualifiers start at just a couple of dollars – you can win packages including flights, accommodation, expenses and tournament entry to a game where the prizes can literally change people’s lives.
This post will focus on two tournaments, the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure + the Aussie Millions. I will also give a quick mention to the WSOP Australia event which will happen in April.
Live Poker Tournaments Winter 2013 – The PCA
Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure is officially part of the European Poker Tour. This event is a long way from Europe, in the Atlantis resort and casino in the tropical Bahamas. This is a long event with many different games, the main event being a $10k entry game with a multi-million final table. What I like about this one is the very real vacation / tournament concept… an experience as well as a chance for some very big money.
The main event starts on Jan 7th, and literally 100’s of satellite qualifiers can be found at Pokerstars.com. These start at $2 and go through stages to the super-satellites which give away exclusive $16,000 packages… your only dilemma is whether to take the wife (or husband) or not!
One more thing… if you deposit with bonus code PCA600 (for your first deposit) before Dec 9th, you get a free $10 satellite entry. Use Marketing Code PSP3108 when you register (when you choose this from the drop-down list on the registration scheme, a new box appears).
Check out Pokerstars.com for yourself now – I’ll see you at the PCA!!
Live Winter Poker Tournaments 2013 – The Aussie Millions
This event is held each year in Melbourne, Australia – where January is the height of summer! Big stars as well as locals fly in to play this tournament, and are joined by a lot of online qualifiers. While the main bulk of satellite events are being held at worldwide sites, you can win a ticket over at Carbon Poker – who have qualifiers all year round where you can choose which event you play in.
Again there are a lot of events at the Aussie Millions, with the main event starting on Sunday the 27th of January.
My pick for players outside of the US are the stage-by-stage qualifiers being run at 888 Poker, who have been one of the big success stories in the online poker world this year – after revamping their cool software client and really focusing on the recreational / casual player bracket.
These qualifiers start at $1.10c and go through stages up to the $535 super-satellites which run every 2 weeks. You can win a $15,500 package to the Aussie Millions, which includes all your expenses as well as the tournament entry. With so many casual players at 888, you have a real chance of making your way through the stages and landing a package! Check them out for yourself at 888Poker.com
One More Tournament – The World Series Australia
2013 will see the first World Series Oz, this takes place in April, also in Melbourne, and will award those coveted bracelets. 888 are running satellites to this event in parallel with the Aussie Millions ones – if you win a supersatellite, then you get to choose which event to attend.
I’ll bring you more coverage of the World Series event closer to the time!
