With the iPoker split just over a week away, there is currently a lot of speculation about which sites will make the all important ‘top tier’. This post shows the other side of the split, that some smaller skins who would not be making the cut will be negotiating sales with those who are – after all, the alternative is effective death!

I think this is great news for most players on the iPoker Network. Here is a quick roundup of the latest news and also news of a downloadable poker calculator being offered by Titan Poker.

First up Celeb Poker. This is one of a huge number of smaller to mid-sized iPoker Skins. They had some new player marketing, though from my perspective they fell into the category of ‘offering better deals to good players, so they moved from the bigger skins’.

This is the reason for the split in the first place. A lot of players come to the network through the betting brands, most of them recreational or occasional poker fans. A small percentage get the poker bug and go on to become multi-tabling grinders… these are the ‘high volume and high value’ players that the small – so called ‘parasitic’ – ipoker skins were after… they took them away with tempting ‘VIP bonus deals’ and gave them access to the same tables as before.

Now, the effect of this was that the bigger brands were losing all of their most valuable players!

So, they did the sensible thing and made a plan to get rid of the ‘parasitic skins’ by segregating the games, the smaller skins with all the pro-grinders will now get to play against each other only – while the big sports brands will get to keep their good players.

Celeb were not in the ‘parasite’ category from my perspective, they must have figured they were unlikely to make the cut and sold out while they could… This is almost certainly the first of many mergers and buyouts by the bigger players.
