Both the iPoker and OnGame Networks have been hitting the headlines again recently. After the big loss of Bwin before xmas, OnGame have been hit with another defection. This time Betfair – the giant betting exchange – have started offering iPoker tables to their players. At the moment there is a dual OnGame / iPoker offering – which will end in 6 months when the move is completed.
iPoker are enjoying this boost as we go into 2013, with Everest integrating in the last quarter of last year their ‘iPoker2’ tier is looking better and better from the perspective of recreational players. Exclusive Poker Tables OnGame
Several brands on the OnGame network offered exclusive tables for their players only. The idea of these was to shield players coming over from the betting sites for the first time from too many sharks! For example, by having ‘Bettson Only’ games, the smaller OnGame skins full of ‘VIP deal pro grinders’ would not be able to take their bankrolls too quickly.
With yesterday’s announcement that these tables are coming to an end, I can only speculate that this was driven by the sudden drop in player numbers after the Bwin and now Betfair departures.
By opening up exclusive tables to all, the pool of players is big enough to keep people on the network. Without the exclusives the ‘general’ pool looks smaller… risking people leaving as they feel that there are not enough games to keep them interested.
It will be interesting to see what the next move for this network are – will more brands be enticed to join, or will there be more defections to different networks?
Exclusive Cash Game Tables On iPoker
Another announcement from some of the top tier sites on the iPoker Network. Bet365 and Paddy Power are both closing their exclusive tables… for me the reason is completely different when compared to OnGame.
iPoker2 has already effectively shielded cash game players from the ‘VIP Deal Grinders’ of the smaller (sometimes ‘parasitic’) skins. With only the big brands with big marketing budgets involved (think Bet365, William Hill, Poker770, Everest Poker, PaddyPower, Titan and now Betfair) this player pool is hugely ‘recreational’ in nature compared to other large sites.
This has effectively taken away the need to shield players on exclusive tables – the removal of these is a vote of confidence that the split of this network is working out great!
I have to agree, if you have not seen the potential for profits at the top iPoker tier then head on over – you will be in for a very pleasant surprise!
